S2: Nature & Forest Therapy: An Embodied Immersion into Right-Relation with Nature with Leigha Horton

Nature and Forest Bathing is a nature-relation tradition practiced by cultures worldwide for millenia experiencing a formalized resurgence in recent years. Through guided, spacious invitations crafted to slow us down and fully embody our senses, this exploration of the natural environment walks alongside participants as we step into awareness of and relationship with the being-ness of Nature, remembering our embodied wisdom, and reconnecting us with the importance of community presence. Lauded for the abundance of healthful effects on the human body, mind, and spirit, Nature and Forest Bathing walks are also a seed planted toward right-relation with the earth and all the beings who call this place home; an essential ingredient in effective conservation actions. Once learned, this practice can be adapted, modified, and experienced in any environment.

Leigha Horton is Programming Director, & Co-Founder
Silvae Spiritus and 2018 Certified Guide, Former Practicum Mentor & Apprentice Trainer with the Association of Nature & Forest Therapy Guides & Programs.
From a free-range childhood of playing in the woods, catching fireflies in her grandparents’ back yard, and family camping and fishing trips, to an adulthood exploring our sacred wild places (Yosemite National Park, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and Dunmore Head being favorites) Leigha’s love affair with Nature was planted at a very young age, tenderly nurtured, and has flourished in the decades since.
A communicator by training and by trade, she has spent over 20 years as a professional voiceover, screen, and stage actor – the past 13 years specializing in voiceovers for national television and radio commercials, film trailers, museum exhibits, documentaries, training films, educational games, animation, and audio books. Leigha also has over a decade of experience in the museum field – developing and delivering programming about science, history, and arts to tens of thousands of visitors at the Walker Art Center, The Science Museum of Minnesota, and the Minnesota History Center.
It wasn’t until 2016, however, when her near-death experience in the remote wilderness became the catalyst for sweeping change in her life, that she realized her calling to immerse herself in a deeper understanding of, respect for, and connection with the healing, creative, and destructive power of nature. As co-founder of Silvae Spiritus, a Northwoods Nature Retreat offering guided Nature and Forest Bathing, wood-fired Sauna, a five-star AirBnB, and Interbeing Immersions. Leigha is honored to introduce and inspire others to experience their own reconnection with the natural world, believing that what we love and enjoy, we protect; and Nature needs us all now more than ever.
